Limitations
Their are several limitations/bugs in the GetHelp! arexx script
and the concept as a whole:
-
You must have a real '.info' icon file for '.help' files
(not just a default icon) if you wish to open '.help' files
directly from Workbench with a double-click
-
While GetHelp.rexx should handle Voyager, the GetHelp
system is thoroughly untested with Voyager
-
Browser file open requesters generally just look for .html
or .html files, rendering your lovely .help files invisible
-
Browser hotlist functions won't work in most cases because GetHelp files are cached in T:
-
The SearchHTML facility is an early beta and has only been tested and configured with IBrowse. The good news is that this browser restriction is with the SearchHTML.rexx script, not with the executable.
-
Now that I use OpenURL I can't see an easy way to tell when
to delete the cached files. GetHelp waits until all
potential users of GetHelp files have quit(!)
-
Browsers are large, capable programs - way to capable for
GetHelp! purposes... I would love this to work with offline
browsers like moreHTML, but such programs will have to get
MIME support and an arexx interface.
